NEW YORK — Classes should resume at New York City public schools Friday, the day after they were canceled because of a ferocious winter storm, the mayor said.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said schools are expected to be open Friday, but updates will be shared Thursday afternoon in case that changes.

The so-called “bomb cyclone” storm brought heavy snow and powerful wind gusts to the region.

By Thursday afternoon the bulk of the precipitation had moved away, but not before dumping several inches of snow across the five boroughs.
