Staten Island man punched onto subway tracks in Brooklyn dies, suspect in custody

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A man who was punched and fell onto the subway tracks in Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon has died.

Jacinto Suarez, 65, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was punched and fell onto R-train tracks at Jay St.-MetroTech. He was pulled from the tracks by a good Samaritan.

Suarez, of Staten Island, died at the hospital from his injuries.

Police say the 18-year-p;d suspect was walking along the platform, talking to himself when he approached the victim. The victim told the man to leave him alone, but the man came back and punched the victim, causing him to fall onto the tracks.

The suspect was quickly taken into custody around 2:30 p.m.

R trains are running with delays, skipping Jay Street-MetroTech in both directions.

Northbound  trains are bypassing Jay St-MetroTech.

Southbound  trains are stopping along the  line from Canal St to DeKalb Av.

Some southbound  trains are stopping along the  line from 36 St (Qns) to W 4 St-Washington Sq then via the  line to DeKalb Av.

Expect delays to  and  train service.

These service changes are because of the ongoing NYPD activity at Jay St-MetroTech.
