MARINE PARK, Brooklyn —Parents dropping their elementary school aged children off at P.S. 222 in Marine Park were horrified to learn a Department of Education worker had been arrested Thursday, charged with sexually assaulting a teacher in her classroom.
What’s worse, a teacher we spoke with off camera said teachers had complained about the janitor’s behavior and no action had been taken.
Kasim Khan, 32, was arrested around 11:36 a.m. and is accused of allegedly gyrating and rubbing his genitals on a teacher’s backside inside P.S. 222, police said.
“It’s awful. My grandson goes here. My daughter went here. What do I even say to him about this,” lamented life long Marine Park resident Peggy Ginefra.
Another grandfather was shaken by the news. “This is everywhere. Everywhere. No one is safe. To hear about this in a classroom?” Tom Cerraro said as he told PIX11 News he has three granddaughters who attend the school.
The Department of Education confirmed the janitor’s supervisor has been reassigned away from students pending the investigation.
The Department of Education said in a statement, “Mr. Kahn is suspended without pay and is not permitted in any of our school buildings pending the outcome of the investigation into these troubling allegations.”
The NYPD would not confirm if other teachers were being interviewed for potentially more charges.
