30 injured when water taxi hits pier on West Side

NEW YORK — Thirty people suffered injuries when a New York water taxi hit Pier 79 on the West Side, officials confirmed.

It happened just after 4 p.m. near West 40th Street and West Side Highway.

EMS responded to assist at least 30 people who suffered minor injuries.

No one suffered life-threatening injuries.

Robert Maher, New York Cruise Lines Managing Director, released the following statement:

"Earlier today an incident occurred involving a New York Water Taxi vessel at Pier 79, which resulted in a hard landing. First and foremost, our thoughts are with those affected by the incident. We are working on-site with the local authorities, Coast Guard and Marine Operations Team to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and assess potential injuries sustained by crew and passengers. We will share more information as the investigation progresses."
