PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, Brooklyn — A female pedestrian has died after being struck by an MTA bus at an intersection in Prospect Lefferts Gardens Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at Nostrand Avenue and Lincoln Road.

Police say the woman was struck by the bus as she attempted to cross the street, but the MTA reports she threw herself in front of the wheel as it began to move.

The MTA says the bus operator was not aware that a pedestrian had been struck until he was alerted by another person.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

"I saw her running but I didn't know when the bus hit her," a witness told pix11 news. "I heard the impact, you know, and then saw her on the street."

The bus driver called 911 and remained on the scene. The incident is under investigation.
