NEW YORK — A correction officer who works at Rikers Island was found safe Friday a day after he was reported missing.
Officer Ken Smith was found and is back with his family, Department of Correction said.
“On behalf of the entire Correction community, I offer our heartfelt thanks to the individuals and agencies that helped locate our officer,” DOC Commissioner Joseph Ponte said in a statement.
Additional information on his return was not immediately available.
Smith’s wife reported him missing after she didn’t hear from him. He was last heard from at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
Smith has worked with the department since 1996.
