PLANO, Texas — Toyota recently announced a safety recall of approximately 744,000 Sienna minivans due to a sliding door malfunction that could put passengers in danger, according to a news release.

The recall affects Sienna models between 2011 and 2016. In certain vans, there is a possibility that the sliding door motor circuit can become overloaded, which means doors can open while the vans are being driven. If a sliding door motor is impeded and overloaded, and the door’s latch is in an unlatched position, that means the doors could open up, putting passengers inside the vans in danger.

Toyota is currently developing a solution for the issue and said owners of all affected vans will be notified by mail in January.
