GRAMERCY, Manhattan — The weekend after Thanksgiving is the most popular time to buy your Christmas tree.
The Fraser firs are lined up, hundreds of them along Second Avenue, but isn't the weekend after Thanksgiving a little too early to buy a Christmas tree?
Not for some customers.
"It's not too early," Ben Garcia, Christmas tree buyer, told PIX11. "My roommates are away and when they come home, the tree will be all decorated," Ben added.
"If you buy one now, you get to enjoy it for weeks before Christmas," George Smith, Christmas tree seller, told PIX11. "The key is just to keep watering it," Smith said.
The Smith family has been selling Christmas trees and ornaments on this block of Second Avenue between 19th and 20th streets for 10 years now. They call it Holiday Central.
More than 600 Frasier firs ranging in price from $25 to $300, from Canada and North Carolina, are available for sale in this first shipment.
Paul Garcia's family already bought and decorated their tree before they started cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
"My mom does a really great job," Paul said as he showed pictures of the beautifully decorated tree.
On 23rd Street and Second Avenue, some rookie Christmas tree sellers just arrived from Canada. The couple and their dog live in a cute little Boler trailer and wait for customers.
"It is never too early to buy a Christmas tree as long as you water it a lot," Travis Nicolaisen, a new Christmas tree seller told PIX11.
And even if you think it's a little early for the tree, you can always pick up an ornament or two, particularly if you are heading to a tree trimming party.
"It may be too soon for me to buy a tree, but I can always help a friend decorate theirs," Justin Blake told PIX11.AlertMe
