WANTAGH, N.Y. -- An infant, just hours old, was dropped off at a Long Island fire station on Thanksgiving Day, police say.

The 4 pound, 3 ounce baby girl was left at the Wantagh Fire Department on Park Avenue in the Nassau County town around 11:46 a.m.

The fire house is a dedicated Safe Haven drop-off location.

The baby was checked out by medics before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The child is the 3,299 child the AMT Children of Hope Baby Safe Haven Foundation has received nationally since its inception in 1998 and 15th child this year in New York State.
