Teen fatally strikes grandmother with SUV while backing into Queens driveway: NYPD

FLORAL PARK, Queens — A woman died after her grandson allegedly struck and killed with his SUV while he was backing it into the driveway at a Queens home Sunday morning.

The boy, 17, was backing up his 2004 Toyota Squioia into the driveway at 267th Street in the Floral Park section of Queens about 10:30 a.m., police said. As he was reversing, he allegedly struck his 75-year-old grandma, identified as Chandrawati Lathan.

When police arrived, Lathan was unconscious and unresponsive with body trauma. The teen remained at the home until police arrived.

Lathan was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
