TRENTON, N.J. — Officials say a man lost part of his leg and was in critical condition after he was struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Trenton.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said the man was trespassing on Sunday morning about 12:45 when he was struck by a train arriving from New York near the Trenton Transit Center.

Torbic says the man was in critical condition when he was taken to a local hospital where his right leg below the knee was amputated.

She says it’s not clear what led to the accident and why the man, who was unidentified, was on the tracks.

Train traffic was briefly halted, but is running normally.

NJ Transit Police are investigating the accident.

Torbic says no one on the train was hurt.
