Two arrested in connection with Newark police stabbing

NEWARK, N.J. – Authorities say two Newark police officers are expected to recover after being stabbed while trying to break up a large fight, and two men have been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Marc Peralta and Jeancarlo Romero were arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault of police.

Officials said both officers were taken to a hospital early Friday with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the officers were intervening in a fight at around 3 a.m. when the attack took place.

The names of the officers haven't been released.

Additional details are expected to be released later Friday.
