The chances are good that a sandwich was already on the menu for today.

About half of American adults eat a sandwich every day, but on Nov. 3, National Sandwich Day 2016, sandwich chain Subway is offering a buy-one-get-one free deal for anyone interested in food between slices of bread.

Customers who buy a sub and drink Thursday will get a free sandwich of equal or lesser value. The sandwich chain will also make a donation to Feeding America, a nonprofit which helps food kitchens, for every sub purchased.

Nov. 3rd is a significant day in sandwich history; it’s John Montagu’s birthday. Montagu, better known as the Earl of Sandwich, was a gambling man and was credited with the invention of the sandwich after he put meat between bread slices so he could eat while he played cards.

No other major sandwich chains have made announcements about National Sandwich Day Deals, but there are dozens of Subway locations locally.
