JERSEY CITY, N.J. — New Jersey drivers  drivers will now pay 23-cents more per gallon at the pump.

Drivers who fill up 4 to 6 times per month could be paying $15 to $50 extra per month, depending on the size of your vehicle.

The increase will go towards roads, bridges and transportation projects.

New Jersey’s transportation trust fund has been running dry for years.

The tax hike is supposed to provide a $32 billion injection for the fund, spanning eight years.

New Jersey has not raised the gas tax in 30 years. It had the second-cheapest gas tax in the nation, but it will soon be among the most expensive.

New Jersey will have the country’s sixth highest gas tax.
