PIX11 steps in to help NYer who can’t afford MetroCard to see dying mom

Dawn Mueller says it's only a matter of time.

Her mother has advanced lung cancer is in hospice, and she reached out to PIX11 News for help.

"She could leave us any day and I want to be there seven days a week, but I just can't afford it," Mueller said.

According to the Community Service Society, one in four low income people can't afford MetroCards, struggling paycheck to paycheck.

PIX11 News reached out to the advocacy group that helps New Yorkers get an affordable ride.

CSS typically gets referrals through organizations, but made an exception in Mueller's case.
