Man wanted for attacking couple getting into a cab in midtown

MIDTOWN, Manhattan — Police are looking for a man who attacked a couple while they were getting into a cab in midtown Thursday night.

A woman, 68, was getting into a cab near E. 46th Street and Third Avenue about 10:20 p.m. when a man grabbed her shoulder. Her husband, who was standing by her, intervened and pulled the man away from her. But the man began beating the husband, punching him in the stomach and head.

The 72-year-old man fell to the ground and hit is face. He suffered a broken thumb, nose and finger from the attack, police said.

The attacker is described as being 50 years old with gray hair and goatee.
