NEW YORK — Discount MetroCards for low-income New Yorkers are being discussed

Community Service Society has been advocating for the city to pay for discount MetroCards for people living at the federal poverty line.

Advocates, riders and some NYC Council Members are calling on the administration to fund the initiative.

Riders Alliance has been meeting with students and riders to gather support for the cause. They held a rally recently on the steps of city hall.

Elementary and high school students in the city get MetroCards from the city. Reduced-fare cards are already available to school students, seniors and people with disabilities.
