EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Michael Devenio, 24, of Lyndhurst has been identified as the victim of a Sunday morning fatal car crash on Route 3 near Metlife Stadium. Four others were injured.

The crash closed all eastbound lanes of traffic for hours. Giants game day traffic was diverted to local roads.

His best friend who was with him just hours prior to the wreck said that Devenio was on his way to the White Mana Diner.

“I just want my friend back,” said Jonathan “Bubba” Jasinski, who said Devenio was like a brother. "He was a loving, caring, kind kid. He didn't deserve this at all. I think he was at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Devenio played football for Paramus Catholic High School. He graduated in 2010 and went on to play for Western New England University.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
