BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A garbage can exploded outside a New Jersey home early Thursday morning, officials said.

The rubber trash can blew up just after 1:30 a.m., said Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave. No one was injured in the explosion. There was no damage to surrounding homes or vehicles.

Police on the scene found smoke billowing from the can, Della Fave said. It is unclear what caused the explosion.
