BARNEVELD, N.Y. — A clown reportedly jumped out of the bushes near a hiking trail and chased after two young girls in a small upstate New York town, police said.

Oneida County sheriff officers responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the area near Trenton Town Park, located in Barneveld, a village within Trenton that has less than 300 residents.

Two girls, ages 8 and 11, told police a male in a clown costume jumped out of the bushes near the park’s hiking trails and chased them. The girls were able to run away and call police.

The girls described the clown as a male in his late teens to early twenties wearing an orange wig, white and red face paint and tight yellow pants. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred during a period where “creepy clown” sightings have been reported in more than 32 states and even worldwide. PIX11 has compiled a map showing all the clown sightings in the tri-state area.
