YORKVILLE, Manhattan — A woman was struck and killed by a van in the Yorkville section of Manhattan Friday and a man has been charged in connection with her death.

Blanca Pagan, 73, of Yorkville, was crossing 89th street Friday around 3 p.m.

That’s when police say Pjerin Gjerji, 48, turned right off York Avenue onto 89th Street and allegedly hit Pagan with his van as she was walking in the crosswalk.

Police found her on the ground unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her body.

EMS workers took her to a local hospital where she then succumbed to her injuries.

Gjerji stayed on the scene after Pagan was hit.

He was taken into custody and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, according to police.
