WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — An alleged gunman is under arrest in connection with a double shooting in a Washington Heights park that killed a man and injured a second man, who, bleeding from his shoulder, flagged down police shortly after he was shot, authorities said.

Corvell Hampton, 28, of Chicago, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.

It was about 1 p.m. Monday when a 31-year-old man found police officers near Highbridge Park at West 165th Street and Edgecomb Avenue and told them he had been shot in the shoulder inside the park, NYPD said.

He led them to another victim, 36, who was unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

That man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending family notification, police said.

The man who was shot in the shoulder was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, police said.

Hampton was taken into custody Monday. Police said he was in possession of a semi-automatic weapon.

It’s not clear what sparked the shooting and a motive has not been released.
