Woman, 82, discovered bound, dead in East Village apartment; man in custody

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan — An 82-year-old woman was found dead and bound with tape in an East Village apartment Friday evening after another woman, who was also bound, managed to break free and call police.

Police responded to 711 FDR Drive in the Lillian Wald housing development around 5:35 p.m.

When they arrived, officers discovered 82-year-old Ella-Nae Biaz with her wrists and ankles bound with tape. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old woman, who called police had also been bound inside the apartment, but managed to free herself and alert police.

The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for her injuries.

Police say a man has been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
