HEMPSTEAD, Long Island — After months of sparring from afar, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will are facing off Monday night in the first presidential debate on a stage at New York’s Hofstra University.
They’re sure to face questions about domestic terrorism and police shootings given recent incidents in New York, North Carolina and elsewhere. The 90-minute televised debate comes six weeks before Election Day. Early voting is already getting underway in some states.

Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton was there when ISIS was “an infant” and now it’s grown to 30 countries. “You’re going to stop it? I don’t think so,” Trump says.
“We need to knock the hell out of ISIS, and we need to do it fast.” says Donald Trump after saying Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama created ISIS.
“I’m all for NATO, but they have to focus on terror also, ” says Donald Trump.
Hillary Clinton says we need to cooperate with the Muslim community to help fight terrorism and not alienate them.

“We need to intensify our airstrikes against ISIS,” says Hillary Clinton. “We’re making progress, our military is assisting in Iraq.”
Hillary Clinton says part of her plan to defeat ISIS includes going after them online.
“We have so many things we have to do better Lester,” says Donald Trump.
“Under President Obama, we’ve lost control over things we used to have control over,” Donald Trump says regarding the internet.
“I don’t think anyone knows it was Russia that broke into the DNC” Donald Trump says. He says it could also be a 400-pound person sitting in their bed that broke into the DNC.
“Russia has used cyber attacks against all kinds of organizations. I am deeply concerned about this.” – Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton says “cyber warfare” will be one of the biggest challenges for the next president.

“We settled the suit with no admission of guilt,” says Donald Trump about the racism lawsuit. He says many real estate firms were sued in that same lawsuit.
“Donald started his career by being sued by the Justice Department by not renting apartments to African Americans” – Hillary Clinton says.

Hillary Clinton says she would put money into the budget to help us deal with implicit bias by retraining police.
“We’ve got too many military-style weapons on the street.” says Clinton. She says there needs to be a prohibition on people on watch lists to buy guns. If someone is too dangerous to fly, they are too dangerous to buy a gun.
“We need to have more second chance programs,” says Hillary Clinton.
“There are the right ways of doing it and then there are ways that ineffective. Stop and frisk was found to be unconstitutional because it was ineffective,” says Hillary Clinton.
“You need better relationships between the communities and police.” – Donald Trump.

“African American communities are being decimated by crime,” says Donald Trump.

Building and investing the middle class and helping people refinance their college debt are things that will help boost the economy, not more advantages for the people at the very top, says Hillary Clinton.
“Trickled down did not work, it got us into the mess we were in in 2008, slashing taxes on the wealthy hasn’t worked,” – Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton laughs and says that she feels that by the end of the night she’ll be blamed for everything.
Candidates will now defend tax increases.
“No wonder you’ve been fighting ISIS your whole adult life.” – Donald Trump says to Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump says he doesn’t think General Douglas MacArthur would like her website.
Hillary Clinton says she’s created a real-time fact checker to her website and people can look at them. Donald Trump says people can go look at his as well.

Lester Holt asks the candidates how to keep jobs in the United States, Donald Trump says to not let them leave in the first place.
Donald Trump says it’s “very important” to him that Hillary Clinton is happy.
“My father gave me a very small loan in 1975 and I built it into a business into billions and billions of dollars,” says Donald Trump.
Hillary Clinton mentions that Donald Trump got a $14-million loan from his father when discussing business growth.
“We are 5 percent of the world’s population and we need to trade with the 95 percent of the world,” says Hillary Clinton.
“I’ll be reducing taxes from 35 percent to 15 percent to small and big businesses,” says Donald Trump.
As far as child care is concerned, Donald Trump says he and Hillary Clinton probably agree on parts of it, maybe not the numbers.
“Our jobs are fleeing the country, they’re going to Mexico and many other countries,” says Donald Trump as his opening statement on job creation.
“You have to judge us, who can shoulder the immense, awesome responsibilities of the presidency,” Hillary Clinton says.
“I want to see more companies do profit sharing,” says Clinton. Companies should see the profit they help create.
