UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan — A mugger threw an 86-year-old man to the ground in Central Park and ran off with his wallet early Friday, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was walking in Central Park near the 76th Street entrance with his 56-year-old wife, police said. A group of four people approached the couple around 12:30 a.m. and asked them for money.

When the 86-year-old man said no, one of the four men threw him to the ground, officials said. The culprit grabbed the man’s wallet and ran off.

The victim refused medical attention, police said. Police do not have a description of the suspect.

The mugging is the latest in a string of robberies targeting New Yorkers in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
