QUEENS VILLAGE, Queens — A Queens couple was charged with beating their 6-week-old son, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Baby Liam Lugo was malnourished and had multiple fractures to his clavicle, ribs and right humerus. He also allegedly suffered from life-threatening infections.

Prosecutors charged his parents – Joyce Nazareth, 23, and Victor Lugo, 27 – with assault, reckless endangerment  and endangering the welfare of a child during their Sept. 2 arraignment.

“The victim in this case is an infant, who depended on his parents for sustenance and care,” said District Attorney Richard Brown. “However, just weeks old, this baby allegedly suffered extensively at the hands of the very people who should have loved him the most.”

Liam weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces at birth, Brown said. He weighed only 6 pounds, 8 ounces when admitted to a hospital on Aug. 22.  His nose eroded as a result of severe infections. He’s going to need multiple reconstructive surgeries.

They were ordered held without bail. Nazareth and Lugo are scheduled to be back in court on Sept. 16. If convicted, they each face up to 25 years in prison.
