WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. — The Facebook page of a south New Jersey Republican running for local office has called for the rape of a Washington-based reporter for The Daily Beast.

Mike Krawitz, who is running for the West Deptford Republican Party Committee, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that his account was hacked and that he didn’t make the comments Monday on journalist Olivia Nuzzi’s Facebook account.

But Nuzzi says she has been harassed on social media by Krawitz since December 2015.

“I. Hope. Somebody. Rapes. You. Today. :),” one of the comments reads. Although many of the comments have since been removed, Nuzzi posted screenshots of the posts to her Twitter.

The West Deptford GOP condemned the comments and called on Kravitz to end his campaign after finding no evidence the Republican’s account was hacked. Bob Waller, chairman of the West Deptford Republican Party Committee, called the posts “repulsive.”

The comments came after Nuzzi promoted an article about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s ex-wife Marla Maples.

The Facebook pages for Krawitz and the West Deptford GOP were both down Tuesday.

Kravitz has not responded to a request for comment.
