YONKERS, N.Y. — Police have charged a 19-year-old man for leaving the scene of a collision that killed a Yonkers teen, officials said.
Zachary Dunn, 18, was killed in the crash, which happened shortly before 3 a.m. Monday in Yonkers.
Westchester County Police say Dunn was stopped on the Saw Mill River Parkway — on the northbound side near McLean Avenue — to check out a flat tire when his car was rear-ended by an Acura.
The occupants of the Acura then reportedly abandoned their car and got into another one, which they fled the scene in, police said.
Police believe 19-year-old Junior Silverio-Ventura was driving the car that struck Dunn and have charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, authorities said.
Silverio-Ventura was arrested Monday night and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Yonkers City Court.
A passenger in Dunn’s car suffered non-threatening injuries.
Additional charges are possible, according to Police Commissioner George N. Longworth.
