Taxi driver whips woman who can’t pay ride fare, police say

A taxi driver allegedly whipped his passenger with a belt when she told him she didn’t have money to pay the fare, police said.

EAST WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn — A taxi driver repeatedly whipped a passenger after she told him she didn’t have money to pay for her interborough ride, police said.

The 21-year-old woman took the cab from Midtown to Johnson Avenue and White Street in Brooklyn around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 23, police said. She told her driver she didn’t have money to pay for her ride.

When the driver heard that, he allegedly repeatedly whipped the woman with his belt, police said. She was treated at a local hospital for welts.

No arrests have been made.
