Hit-and-run driver kills man crossing Bronx street: NYPD

MORRIS PARK, the Bronx — A man is dead after he was fatally struck by a van while crossing the street in the Morris Park section of the Bronx Tuesday night.

The 65-year-old victim was crossing in the intersection of Bronxdale and Barnes avenues around 9 p.m. when a light colored van heading west hit him, police said.

He was thrown into the air and his body hit a dark green Honda Odyssey that was heading east on Bronxdale Avenue. The driver of that vehicle stayed on the scene.

The victim was unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived, and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the light colored van fled west on Bronxdale Avenue, according to police.

No arrests have been made and police are conducting an investigation.

The victim's identification is currently withheld pending family notification.
