Ambulance hits, kills 81-year-old man in East Village

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan — An 81-year-old man was killed after he was struck by an FDNY ambulance in the East Village Monday afternoon, officials said.

Gen Zhan was crossing the street at 14th Street and Second Avenue around 2:15 p.m. when the ambulance hit him, police said. Paramedics rushed Zhan to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the driver remained on the scene.

It was not immediately clear if charges were filed.
