FLATBUSH, Brooklyn — A 16-year-old is being charged with murder in the shooting of a father in front of a Brooklyn elementary school that occurred during a confrontation over his son’s stolen Oakland Raiders baseball cap, police said Wednesday.

Adonis Barnett, 16, of East Flatbush, is being charged with murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

The allegations come after Gerald Cummings was shot in the head and back the night of Aug. 4 outside P.S. 6, Norma Adams Clemons Academy, according to police.

The shooting occurred after Cummings spotted someone wearing an Oakland Raiders baseball cap that resembled the one stolen from his son on July 30, investigators said at the time.

Cummings then confronted the male, who pulled a gun from his backpack and opened fire, police said.

Sources initially told PIX11 a teen had been arrested in the incident last Thursday, but did not provide a name at the time.

It is unclear when Barnett was first detained.
