Human skull found in Ronkonkoma wooded area near Long Island Expressway

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — Suffolk County police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human remains near the Long Island Expressway Saturday afternoon.

A man was riding his bicycle in the woods just north of Express Drive North in Ronkonkoma when he found a human skull.

Police believe the remains have been there for an extended period of time.

A positive identification has not yet been made. Police did not specify if the skull belonged to an adult or a child.

The Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
