Cyclist struck by private garbage truck in Brooklyn, critically injured

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A 44-year-old cyclist was critically injured Thursday night after being hit by a private sanitation truck in Brooklyn, police said.

The man was biking south on Albany Avenue when he was hit by a garbage truck driving west on Lefferts Boulevard around 11:24 p.m., officials said. It was unclear if he was wearing a helmet.

The victim suffered head trauma and was unconscious when paramedics arrived on the scene, police said. He was transported to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the truck stayed on the scene, police said. No arrests have been made.
