Good Samaritan slashed by homeless man while trying to break up fight on Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan -- A Good Samaritan was slashed on the arm when he tried break up a fight between a homeless man and another man who had a child with him on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon.

The argument that escalated into a fight was witnessed around 1:30 p.m. at 79th Street and Broadway.

Police say the Good Samaritan tried to intervene when the homeless man cut his arm and took off running into Riverside Park where he removed his shirt and continued running.

A K-9 unit was brought in by authorities to use the scent of the shirt to locate the slasher.
