Father, son die in Belmar house fire

BELMAR, N.J. — A father and son died in a house fire in Belmar late Monday, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The blaze began about 9:30 p.m. at 212 14th Ave.

The victims were identified only as a father and his son. Their names have not yet been released.

Mayor Matt Doherty confirmed the fatalities on Twitter. He also thanked the efforts from the local fire departments who helped extinguish the flames, calling them "heroes."
