NEW YORK — The five boroughs are under a heat advisory through Monday night as an oppressive heat wave continues to grip the region.

The advisory went into effect at noon and is set to expire at 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Heat and humidity will combine again Monday to make it feel like the mercury is in the mid 90s, the agency said.

"While not as dangerous as that of this past weekend, (the combination of heat and humidity) will still present an elevated risk for heat-related health issues," the NWS said in its weather alert.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are especially at risk during this dangerously hot spell, the agency said.
