MIDTOWN, Manhattan — Police are searching Sunday for a man connected to an attempted robbery in a Midtown jewelry store.

Around 4 p.m. Sunday, the man went into Rafaello and Co. Jewelry at 22 W. 47th Street and asked to see a chain that was in a display case, police said.

When a male employee went to get the key to open the display case, the man allegedly pulled a gun on a female employee and placed it against her head.

She screamed and the male employee returned to the front of the store where he fought the man and tried to grab the gun, police said.

The man held onto the gun but before he went to use it, it fell apart, according to police.

The man then ran out of the store empty handed and headed east on 47th Street.

He is described as being between 20 and 25 years old, around 6-feet 2-inches tall and around 160 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, black shoes and a black baseball cap. He can be seen in surveillance photos obtained by police and released to the public.
