A Brooklyn man allegedly punched a man who later died from blunt force trauma twice in the face, police said.

FLATBUSH, Brooklyn — A 27-year-old Brooklyn man was charged with fatally punching a man who lived just a block away from him, police said Monday.

Justin Thomas was arrested Aug. 4 and charged with criminally negligent homicide and assault, police said. Thomas allegedly punched Julius Howard, 50, in the face twice on May 19, knocking Howard out, according to court documents.

Howard, who was highly intoxicated, was taken to Kings County Hospital with lacerations to the head, police said. He died on May 29.

Thomas, who had more than 25 grams of marijuana on him when police arrested him, was arraigned Aug. 5, according to court documents. His bail was set at $15,000 bond or $7,500 cash. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
