Pedestrian fatally struck on West Side Highway after climbing over divider

HELL’S KITCHEN, Manhattan — A pedestrian was struck by a car after he climbed over the divider and into oncoming traffic in Hell’s Kitchen overnight Sunday.

The 22-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive on West Side Highway between W. 46th Street around 2:15 a.m., police said.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed the man had climbed over the divider and stepped on to the street when he was struck by a car traveling northbound, according to police.

The car remained on the scene.

The pedestrian’s name has not been released pending family notification.
