SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Luke Aikins became the first person to successfully jump from a plane into a net without the help of a parachute Saturday evening.
He jumped out of an airplane at 25,000 feet over Simi Valley, California with nothing more than the clothing on his back.
After two minutes of freefall, he landed in the 100-by-100-foot net perfectly.
Aikins said he knows it sounds crazy, but after two years of training, he wants people to see that with hard work sometimes the impossible becomes possible.
Right before the jump, Aikins said he was ordered to wear a parachute. He indicated he would not open it. But as he got closer to 25,000 feet in the air, the requirement was lifted.
After his perfect landing, Aikins walked over to his wife and hugged her. She had been watching with other family members.
