Police reopen part of Times Square after unattended bag scare

TIMES SQUARE — Police have reopened a Times Square intersection after an unattended backpack closed off the area.

Officials closed 43rd Street and Broadway to pedestrians and traffic around 10:45 p.m.

A bomb squad was called to the scene after a backpack was found on the ground.

By 11 p.m., police had removed the barriers and began allowing traffic through the area.

It was not immediately clear what was in the bag.
