Man dies when elevator car pins him between floors

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — A man was killed Saturday when he was pinned between an elevator car and the first floor of a Washington Heights building.

Around 5:45 p.m. the man, who was 43, was loading merchandise into the elevator when it started to travel upward.

Police said he was pinned between the ceiling of the elevator car and the first floor.

He was declared dead at the scene.

His identity is unknown, pending family identification.
