Passerby finds dead body on bench near SoHo’s Dominique Ansel Bakery

SOHO, Manhattan — A passerby discovered a dead body on a sidewalk bench near Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo Friday morning.

The witness told police the 47-year-old man was sitting on the sidewalk bench around 5 a.m. on Spring Street. That person walked pass the bench again around 7:30 a.m. and noticed the man still there in the same position, according to police. The person tried waking him up, but he was unresponsive.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The cause of death is still unknown.

By then, lines for the infamous cronut at Dominique Ansel Bakery was already forming, according to Gothamist. Customers were diverted to avoid the scene.

Witness Molly Pohlig wrote on Twitter customers “seemed to not [be] phased” by the dead body nearby.
