QUEENS – When a book fair in Queens was in trouble, concerned parents and their kids reached out to PIX11 News for help.

On Thursday, they were met with a huge surprise.

This year will be the Queens Book Festival’s first and more than 10,000 people are expected to attend on Aug. 7. But the festival was in danger of not happening.

Parents said with closing bookstores all too common, it’s more important than ever to have a book festival and get their kids excited to read.

PIX11 News reached out to Scholastic and the company is now donating 500 books from the Scholastic Possible Fund.

But that’s not all the Queens Book Festival needs. They need sponsors, too. If you can help, email monica@pix11.com.
