NEWARK, N.J. -- Computers, lounge chairs, and a fully-stocked kitchen are now available to service members and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The new 2,000-square-foot USO center is located at the north end on the second floor of Terminal B.

"I have not seen anything similar,” said Legalman First Class Petty Officer for the U.S. Navy George Layana. His eyes lit up when he spoke about the brand new Mac and PC computers.

Layana estimates that he spent 90 percent of his time traveling while on active duty. Technology offered the opportunity to connect with family and friends while away.

“Some of us don’t have all the facilities to bring our own laptop, or if we need to do a major project. Communication is the key for us,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who wear the cloth of this nation and their families,” said Brian Whiting, President and CEO of USO Metropolitan New York.

The USO is looking for volunteers to work 4-hour shifts at their Newark Airport location to help re-stock the kitchen, take out the trash and talk to service members. You can apply at
