I-78 shuts down after truck overturns in Springfield, NJ

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — Interstate 78 has been shut down after a truck carrying shipping containers overturned in Springfield, N.J. Monday.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. near Route 24. Both lanes have been shut down, NJ State Police said on Twitter.

It’s unknown at this time if the truck was carrying toxic chemicals but a hazmat team has been called to the scene.

All traffic has been detoured on to Exit 45 off Interstate 78 and to Exit 9 off Route 24.
