Man wounded in police-involved shooting in Prospect Lefferts Gardens

PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS—A man was wounded during a police-involved shooting in Prospect Lefferts Gardens Sunday morning.

Police were called to the vicinity of Rogers Avenue and Sterling Street around 7:15 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls and a ShotSpotter activation. A lieutenant and two officers arrived at the scene and found a man, identified as Paul Mathurin, 31, with a gun.

The officers fired 12 rounds of shots when Mathurin did not follow their orders, according to police.

Witnesses told police Mathurin showed the gun to them in a "menacing manner" and continued to yell and scream while firing the weapon.

Mathurin was struck in the hip and was transported to Kings County Hospital. He is listed in stable condition

The three officers were also taken to the hospital and have been released, police said.

Police recovered a 9mm Taurus with an eight shot capacity at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division.
