MANHATTAN BRIDGE – Video footage caught police officers saving a suicidal man from potentially jumping off the Manhattan Bridge Wednesday morning.

Police said officers from the 5th Precinct responded to a call of an "emotionally disturbed person" on the bridge, lower roadway bike path minutes before 5 a.m.. Upon arrival, they found a 22-year-old man on the outermost ledge on the exterior side of the safety fence toward the Brooklyn side.

The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit began a dialogue with the man and over the next half hour, proceeded to cut a hole in the fence in order to facilitate a safe exit for the victim. Once they completed it, ESU personnel climbed the fence and brought the man safely through the hole in the fence.

The victim was uninjured and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
