FIRE ISLAND, N.Y.  — Suffolk County police have arrested a Long Island man on charges of boating while intoxicated.

Authorities say an officer with the Marine Bureau was on patrol in the Great South Bay around 9:40 p.m. Saturday when he saw a boat heading toward the police boat without any navigation lights.

The police boat’s crew reversed the craft to avoid a collision, then stopped the other boat.

The 54-year-old Holbrook man was arrested. There were two other adult passengers on board.
